Local young people will have a change to work on a mural tomorrow as a way of promoting youth empowerment.
The event begins at El Centro del Quinto Sol at 609 N. Erie Avenue in Pueblo with registration at 9:30 a.m. and wraps up at 5 p.m.
"Peace Jam" spokesperson England Porter says, statewide, her organization began in Denver and has been active in Pueblo the past 18 months. She says the group has already worked with students from several Pueblo City Schools, including Pitts and Risley Middle Schools, and Central and Centennial High Schools.
"We want to empower youth to make a difference in their communities," Porter says. "We want young people to understand that they, even at their young ages, can do amazing things in the world."
One of the major projects the group will tackle on Saturday is an art mural involving the La Familia Garden, art mural and students from both middle and high schools. That mural will be painted between 2:15 and 4:15 p.m.
