ASPEN, Colo. (AP) - The couple who got into the White House state dinner for the visiting Indian prime minister without invitations allegedly stiffed the organizer of a polo tournament in Aspen.
The organizer of the World Snow Polo Championship, Barry Stout, told The Aspen Times that Michaele and Tareq Salahi owe him $19,500. He says the couple put down $3,000 toward their $22,500 entrance fee for last year's tournament but never paid the rest. He says he allowed the Salahis' Team Land Rover to participate because he needed a fourth team.
The couple's lawyer, Stephen Best, didn't mmediately return a telephone call seeking comment and their spokesperson didn't return an e-mail.
Residents who met the Salahis during their stay say they posed for many photographs, including one with former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.
