Park clean up could curb crime

Drivers in Pueblo now have a clear view of Mineral Palace Park as they travel along I-25. Workers from the Pueblo Parks and Recreation Department, the Colorado Department of Transportation and the Community Corrections Services cleared out all of the unsightly sucker tree growth from the fences that border park.
New chain link was strung and later this month new trees will be planted that are less likely to create maintenance problems.
Mike Taft, the Urban Forestry Program Coordinator for the parks department, hopes removing the trees will discourage illegal activity by removing dark areas that are typically isolated from regular park traffic.
"This will also allow the many people travelling north and south on I-25 to see historic Mineral Palace Park and all the amenities, truly a feather in our community's hat." Taft said.
The new trees were donated by Kenny G's Trees in 2011.
