Pack finish second amongst 14 teams at Las Vegas Classic

LAS VEGAS (GoThunderWolves.com - Mar. 3, 2014) - Led by a co-runner-up finish by sophomore Leina Kim (Sr., Saipan, CNMI) in the individual standings, the Colorado State University-Pueblo women's golf team turned in a solid second place effort amongst 14 teams at the Las Vegas Desert Classic, held here at Paiute Golf Club on Sunday and Monday.

The ThunderWolves carded team scores of 322 and 326 finishing second only to Tarleton State (Texas) in the 14-team field from around the country. The TexAnns, ranked third nationally, finished with a 36-hole score of 612 while the Pack were at 648 but still three shots ahead of Ashland (Ohio) and six ahead of tournament host Missouri-St. Louis.

Kim, who led after posting a first-round 72, tied for second amongst the 76 players with a 36-hole total of 150, just six shots over par. She carded a 76 in Monday's second round. Tarleton State's Isabell Jimenez Perea claimed medalist honors at 149 (+5) thanks to an even-par 72 on Monday after standing third with a 77 in the first round, that was suspended due to darkness on Sunday and resumed Monday morning.

Meanwhile, Julie Sanchez (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) tied for 22nd at 164 after rounds of 79 and 85. The Pack's Domi Dinallo (Sr., Elephant Butte, N.M.) was just behind at 165, carding rounds of 82 and 83. Senior Michaela Breit (Greeley, Colo.) finished in a 36th place tie at 169 with scores of 89 and 80. She was the only Pack player not to complete her first round on Sunday.

Natasha Navarro (Fr., San Antonio, Texas) rounded out the ThunderWolves' contingent as she tied for 72nd place with a 2-day total of 201.

The ThunderWolves are now off until Mar. 31 and Apr. 1 when they will compete at the Mustang Intercollegiate in Goodyear, Ariz.
