Owners of sled dog facility arrested

The operators of a sled dog training facility in Park County have now been charged with cruelty to animals.  Samuel and Diane Walker of Florissant were arrested at the Park County Jail in Fairplay, after they turned themselves in to authorities on Christmas day.

Both have been charged with two counts of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals, which is a felony, and 30 misdemeanor counts of Cruelty to Animals.  Both posted $2000.00 in bail and will be return to the Park County Court on January 4th, 2010 at 9 a.m.

More than 100 dogs were found dead or dying at a sled dog facilitiy nearly two weeks ago south of Hartsel. When Sheriff's Deputies arrived with a search warrant they found eight dogs dead and more than 100 in "extremely poor" condition.

Approximately 70 animals were placed in shelters from neighboring counties.
