Owner arrested after puppy stabbed

DENVER (AP) - The owner of a 5-month-old puppy is being held for investigation of animal cruelty after his puppy was stabbed five times in the face.

Denver animal control director Doug Kelley says the owner of the American bulldog said he became angry after the puppy bit him.

Kelley says the man then grabbed a knife and stabbed the dog five times, slashing the dog's face. The dog is recovering from surgery.

Kelley says the puppy's owner threw the puppy outside because he was mad that the dog was bleeding in the apartment.

According to the Denver Post, 18-year-old Matthew Davonn Weatherspoon, was arrested Monday. He is being held for investigation of felony animal cruelty.
