The Pueblo City Council is taking a closer look at police overtime, an item that averages around $1 million a year.
Police Chief Jim Billings told said recently that Pueblo's police overtime costs are only 2 percent of the budget, well below the national average of 6 percent.
But some council members say it's still too much. One council member said more than half of the department's roughly 200 officers receive more than $100,000 a year in salary, benefits and overtime.
