The Colorado State Patrol is currently investigation a two vehicle head-on accident, which resulted in one fatality and one injury.
At approximately 2:30a.m. on Saturday, 18 miles south of Springfield, a 1999 Saturn SC2, driven by a 42 year old Joann Webb, of Casper, WY, was traveling southbound on Colorado 287 when it crossed the center line and collided with a northbound 2006 Peterbuilt 387 Tractor Trailer. The Peterbuilt was driven by 41 year old Marulanda Hernando of Hialeah, FL.
After impact the vehicle rolled, and the driver of the Saturn was ejected from the vehicle. The Peterbuilt continued northbound off the road and collided with a power pole and barbed wire fence.
The driver of the Saturn was not restrained at the time of the crash and died as a result of her injuries. The rear seat passenger of the Saturn, identified as 41 year old William Clements of Big Spring, TX., also was not restrained at the time of the crash. Clements was transported to Springfield Hospital with moderate injuries.
The driver of the Peterbuilt was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. The passenger of the Peterbuilt, identified as 45 year old Jairo Macias of Margate, FL, was in the rear sleeper area of the truck and was not restrained at the time of the crash. Both the driver and passenger of the Peterbuilt were not injured.
Drugs and alcohol involvement is unknown at this time, and is pending toxicology results.
