A dozen people face theft and attempted theft charges for allegedly staging accidents, filing multiple insurance claims for the same accident and using their own repair shops to cause more damage.

The Colorado Attorney General's Office says that four people have been arrested, including the co-owners of a repair shop that was used in the alleged insurance fraud. All 12 are accused of being involved in a criminal enterprise. An indictment announced by the AG's office Friday said the ring used the identities of foreign students to buy insurance and file false claims totaling $460,762 between March 17, 2007 and Nov. 10, 2009.

AG spokesman Mike Saccone says five suspects are believed to have fled to Middle Eastern countries.
