Just two nights after a Sky Sox 12-inning walk-off win, it the Omaha Storm Chasers' (64-57) turn Sunday night as a solo homer from Johnny Giavotella in the 12th inning gave the Storm Chasers the 4-3 win over the Sky Sox (48-74).
The Sky Sox held a slim 3-2 lead heading into the final inning, but after working four shutout innings, RHP Dan Houston gave up his lone run to 3B Brian Bocock when he softly lined a single into right to score Terrance Gore, who pinch ran for Cheslor Cuthbert.
The game remained deadlocked into the 12th, but facing his first batter of the game RHP Rob Scahill (2-2) gave up a lead-off homer to Giavotella, which ended up being the game winner for Omaha.
Omaha struck first in the top of the first off Sox starter RHP Chad Bettis, but right fielder Matt McBride lifted the Sky Sox past Omaha with his third-inning blast, a two-run homer to left field. It was his fourth homer of the season, and third since being activated off of the DL in July.
In the following inning, Omaha tied the game up when Carlos Peguero scored on a grounder to the right side hit by Cuthbert.
The Sox retook the lead in the fifth thanks to Kyle Parker's RBI-double.
Bettis made his second start for the Sky Sox, tossing 4.1 strong innings, allowing two runs on four hits, while striking out four and walking two.
Houston went on to make an excellent outing as well, despite the ninth inning run. He allowed one run on five hits in 4.2 innings of work with four strikeouts.
For the Storm Chasers, Casey Coleman (5-0) picked up the win with his 4.0 innings in relief. He allowed zero runs on two hits and three walks with three strikeouts. Louis Coleman picked up his sixth save of the season with a scoreless bottom of the 12th.
In the series finale, the Sky Sox will start LHP James Houser (1-0, 0.00 ERA) against LHP Buddy Baumann (1-3, 2.71). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM (MT).
