The Olympics on NBC Wednesday night broke American Idol's six-year unbeaten streak in viewers across America. When going head-to-head against Idol from 8 to 9 p.m., the Olympics drew nearly 12 million more viewers -- 30.1 million vs. 18.4 million.
For the while night, NBC's Olympic broadcast drew an average audience of 29.4 million, more than 11 million more than the first Wednesday of the 2006 Winter Games. It was the greatest single day in Winter Olympics history medal-wise as Team USA captured six medals.
