GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) - A possible name change for a college in Grand Junction has another western Colorado school concerned about identity theft.
The Daily Sentinel reported Friday that six of the new names being considered by Mesa State College include the words "west" or "western."

Trustees at Western State College in Gunnison say adding "western" to another Colorado college name would confuse sought-after out-of-state students, who pay higher tuition. They've adopted a resolution opposing such a name change.

Western State trustee Sandra Mark said Mesa State should advertise its name better rather than "steal" Western State's name.

Mesa State president Tim Foster said Western State officials have been overreacting. He said having one word in common wouldn't create brand confusion.
Mesa State trustees will meet to consider the proposed new names on April 26.
