Oilfield company lays off dozens in Colorado

Denver-based oilfield services company EnerCrest says it has closed five locations in four states and laid off 225 employees, including 40 in Colorado.
Most layoffs, 125, were at a location that closed in Sibley, Louisiana. Others were laid off with closings in Rifle and Greeley in Colorado; Big Piney, Wyoming and Williston, North Dakota.
Thirty people each were laid off in Big Piney and Williston and 20 each in Rifle and Greeley. The downsizing happened in mid-March.
Todd Erickson, the company's chief development officer, on Friday blamed the "chronic downturn" in the oil and gas industry.
EnerCrest builds roads, pipelines and other facilities related to oil and gas development. Erickson says EnerCrest has done little construction since last year.
