Fort Carson reports that an Army police officer shot a soldier on post Thursday afternoon at 12:20 p.m.

According to Col. Robert McLaughlin, Fort Carson Garrison Commander, the soldier suffered non-life threatening injuries. He's being treated at Memorial Hospital.

A 911 call was made at 11:45 a.m. It was reported that the soldier was acting erratically. When the Army police officer arrived, the soldier made a "sudden, threatening gesture," with a knife at which point he was shot, according to Ft. Carson officials.

The wounded soldier is a member of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, that Col. McLaughlin says is currently stationed in Iraq. He will not say why this particular solider was not deployed with his unit.

Both the FBI and Army Criminal Investigation Command (CID) are conducting a probe of the shooting.

NewsFirst5 reporter Carolyn Carver will have a live report at 10 p.m.
