Officer in theft case makes court appearance

A sergeant with Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) arrested last week on felony charges of theft and forgery was Advised in court Wednesday.

James Butierres was arrested April 25 after allegedly putting in hours that he had not actually worked. He will remain on paid administrated leave until the District Attorney's Office files formal charges, this will likely happen at his First Appearance scheduled on May 9th.

Sergeant Butierres was responsible for overseeing the CSPD Motor Vehicle Theft Unit, and makes just over 81-thousand dollars a year.
