Women who maintain a healthy weight are more likely to survive breast cancer.

Researchers in Denmark followed a group of breast cancer patients for 30 years, looking at their health outcomes as well as their weight.

Women with a body mass index higher than 25 were older and had more advanced disease when they were diagnosed -- compared to women with a lower BMI.

Overweight women also had an increased risk of dying from breast cancer.

The study was presented at the annual San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium, Dec. 9-13, 2009.

Topics: obesity, obese, normal weight, breast cancer, denmerk, san antonio.
