The public gets a declassified look today at the events that allowed a suspected terrorist to slip through post-Sept. 11 security in the failed Christmas Day airliner attack.
The White House plans to release an account of the near catastrophe and President Barack Obama will address the nation about its findings and recommendations. Obama was also to reveal new steps intended to thwart terrorist attacks, as he promised earlier in the week.
No firings over the December security debacle are expected - at least for now.
Authorities say a 23-year-old Nigerian man who was in a database of possible terrorists, managed to fly from Nigeria through Amsterdam to Detroit with an explosive concealed on his body. The suspect has been indicted on a number of charges.
