Obama says no good reason to continue shutdown

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama says Democrats and Republicans at odds over the partial government shutdown can accomplish a lot together once the shutdown ends and the nation's debt limit is increased.

In his weekly radio and Internet address, Obama says lawmakers must agree that there is no good reason anyone should continue suffering. He says the shutdown is hurting those whom government seeks to serve.

Obama says that's the reason more and more Republicans say the shutdown should end now.

In the Republican address, congressman Howard "Buck" McKeon of California says the two parties have found common ground during the budget impasse by funding programs for military veterans. McKeon says Obama and congressional Democrats should back other bills funding government services and then sit down with Republicans and resolve their differences.
