Obama: Russia doesn't share US 'values' in Syria

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama says Russian President Vladimir Putin doesn't share U.S. "values" in Syria.

Obama says Putin is protecting Syrian President Bashar Assad - a leader the U.S. has said needs to leave power.

Obama says the situation in Syria, where more than 100,000 people have died in a civil war, is untenable as long as Assad holds power.

But Obama is making clear that the U.S. will not use military intervention to oust Assad or stop the civil war.

Obama spoke in an interview with ABC's "This Week." The interview aired Sunday, but was taped on Friday, before the U.S. and Russia reached an agreement on a deal to destroy Syria's chemical weapons stockpiles.
