President Barack Obama is blaming an al-Qaida affiliate for a botched Christmas Day terrorist attack on an international flight bound for Detroit.
In his weekly radio and Internet address today, Obama described the path through Yemen of 23-year-old suspect Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab.
Obama says it appears that during his time in Yemen, the suspect joined an affiliate of al-Qaida, and got training from al-Qaida in Obama says the group gave him the explosives and his marching orders.
Obama says the group has previously bombed Western hotels, restaurants and embassies, killing one American in 2008.
The president also emphasized that the United States would continue its anti-terrorism partnerships with friendly countries.
The attack has prompted a top-to-bottom review of the nation's intelligence agencies.
