Northcom's role in storm relief

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE (AP)-U.S. Northern Command is working with civilian agencies to see whether the military's help is needed to respond to a powerful winter storm moving across the U.S.

The Northern Command said Wednesday that its personnel are working with the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The Defense Department has designated McAlester Army Ammunition Plant, Okla., Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, and Fort Campbell, Ky., as support bases to help distribute supplies and equipment.

Northern Command has its headquarters at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado Springs. It's responsible for the military defense of U.S. soil and supports civilian agencies in the event of a natural or human-caused disasters.
