When the Mr. Biggs Family Fun Center closed in April, there were hopes that the annual Best Christmas Ever charity event would still be continued. Organizers now say the event will not be possible this year.
Many businesses have moved into or expanded their operations at the former Mr. Biggs building on Mark Dabling Road. While the growth has added jobs in the community, it didn't leave enough space to hold the giveaway again this year.
Additionally, the loss of the fun center meant guests and volunteers wouldn't be able to play at the event the way they did in previous years.
"It provided a unique feature for all of our guests and even our volunteers and partners," explained Natalie Igou, executive director of America's Family which had organized the event. "Without that we felt that just having another giveaway in town, you know, we're not trying to compete with other giveaways, and we want to support them."
Igou said she is encouraging donors and volunteers to support the Bob Telmosse Christmas Giveaway and the El Paso County Department of Human Service's Feed the Children Event.
