Census workers have been hitting the streets, but how much attention are you giving to the person coming up to your door?
A sex offender has been charged with using a fake name and someone else's Social Security number to get a job as a Census canvasser in New Jersey. He was arrested after a concerned mom alerted authorities.
Amy Schmalbach, of Pennsauken, says she thought a Census worker who came to her door on May 4 looked like a man she had seen on the state's sex offender website. After he left her porch, she called police. He was arrested the next day.
Federal authorities charged him Wednesday with providing false statements to the U.S. Census Bureau.
Authorities say the man's name is Frank Kuni but that he used the alias Jamie Shepard to get the Census job.
It's unclear if he's hired an attorney since his arrest.
