Drivers in Colorado Springs might want to avoid South Academy Blvd. the next few nights while construction is ramping up on the Milton Proby Parkway Project. Managers say the project is about halfway finished.
South Academy Blvd. will be reduced to one lane each way overnight; Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, from Jet Wing Drive to about 1000 feet south of Drennan Road. The lane reduction will be from 7:30 p.m. until 5:00 a.m. the next morning. Thursday morning should be the last morning for the reduction.
They're working on Ramp C; adding overhead support structures and getting some of the heavy lifting done on the ramp that will take traffic from South Academy Blvd. to the Proby Parkway when it's done. In the meantime they'll have to reduce traffic to get the job done, but they're hoping not to have anymore major lane closures during the project.
"This is the last big consecutive night lane closure. There might be some intermittent lane closures down the road, but nothing that will be several days in length," said Mike Chaves, acting roadway manager for the City of Colorado Springs.
Flaggers will be helping drivers through the area. Crews are asking you to take an alternate route if possible.
