Residents of more than 500 homes in the foothill communities north of Los Angeles have been told they should evacuate ahead of another winter storm that's expected to bring heavy rains and possibly cause more mudslides.

Authorities called on residents of 541 homes in La Canada Flintridge and La Crescenta to be out by 10 a.m. Tuesday. Flash flood watches have been issued for wildfire-scarred areas. The weather service says the storm heading in could dump more than a half-inch of rain an hour.

Weather forecasters predict thunderstorms, snow in mountain passes and about an inch and a half of rain for the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, where debris basins overflowed and damaged 43 homes over the weekend.
