Voters in El Paso County could see early numbers within minutes of the polls closing on Election Day. "We're going to release results when we are able to," said El Paso County Clerk and Recorder, Wayne Williams.
This is Williams' first presidential race since he took over as Clerk and Recorder. His plan is to release numbers quickly and update throughout the evening. His staff will tally mail-in and early voting ballots at 7:00 p.m. when polls close and then release numbers at 7:05. They will then update with numbers from polling places starting at 8:30. As ballots continue in from polling places there will an update every hour until the count is complete.
While he wants to get numbers in a timely manner, Williams says he also won't allow the process to be rushed. "The most important thing we can do is to make sure we count every vote accurately. That is our top priority."
