Beginning Friday night, inmates will begin filling the brand new 1.9 million dollar detox facility in El Paso County.
The facility seems like a large tent. The walls are moveable which allows the county shift the use of this facility in the future if need be.
However, for now, the focus will be on detoxification.
Inmates will begin making their way over tonight and the entire facility should be fully operational by tomorrow.
Today was the ribbon cutting. Several members of the community who made this facility possible came to celebrate the opening and the 40 new spaces for detox in El Paso County.
It's going to provide detox services well into the future, as long as we hold that partnership that's holding it together and all of us stay committed, it will be here a long time. The model we've developed is very affordable," says El Paso County Sheriff Terry Maketa.
The unique construction of the facility has other benefits besides its usefulness. It was also quick to build. Ground was broken on this facility in June of this year.
