New details released about Dougherty shootout

We're learning more about a shootout near Walsenburg Wednesday, that marked the end of a cross-country manhunt for three siblings. Pueblo County Sheriff Kirk Taylor says the Dougherty's were armed with AK-47s and machine gun when they allegedly fired shots at state troopers during a high-speed chase on I-25. According to an arrest affidavit, Lee Grace Dougherty told investigators "We weren't trying to hurt anyone."

Lee Grace, Dylan and Ryan made their first appearance before a judge this morning. Lee Grace was in a wheelchair, she was shot in the leg during the shootout. Her brother Dylan had a bandage around his right arm. Their bail was set at $1.25 million each--for both attempted murder and assault.

After the hearing their attorney dodged questions from reporters. "How are they doing?" asked a reporter. "Can't say," said the attorney.

News First 5 has learned more about what happened during the interstate chase. The youngest sibling, Ryan, is accused of driving as his brother Dylan allegedly fired at officers. They eventually drove over spike strips and crashed, but officers say Lee Grace kept firing. "I can tell you at the scene of the crash, there were two AK-47 assault rifles," said Kirk Taylor, Pueblo County Sheriff. He says there was also a machine gun and possibly more weapons in the car. Investigators are still taking inventory.

All three suspects were taken to a hospital, then to jail in a high-security motorcade. "The safe transport of a high profile prisoner is extremely important obviously, but we don't know why they were in Colorado, so we have to infer that possibly they knew someone here," said Sheriff Taylor. Although there's no information that's the case.

According to an arrest affidavit, Lee Grace eventually told investigators: "I pointed the gun at the cop. I deserved to get shot."

The suspects are scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
