New cone zone on Hwy 24 starting tomorrow

Did you enjoy zipping over Hwy 24 between Woodland Park and Colorado Springs without a cone zone? The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) finished its first bridge project in less than a week. Now, it's on to the next one.
This project, replacing Twin Creek Bridge between Florissant and Divide, is going to be more painful--you'll have to allow for extra time if you're taking this route. All traffic will be detoured to Teller County Roads 1 and 42 (Lower Twin Rocks Road), 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for up to two weeks. The detour speed limit will be 35 mph. Vehicles wider than 11 feet can't use the detour route.
"Closing Highway 24 through the area allows the bridge to be replaced in a timely manner which, in turn, minimizes how long traffic will need to use the detour route," said CDOT Resident Engineer Dave Watt. "Replacing a bridge while still maintaining traffic on part of it normally takes up to twelve weeks to complete. Closing the entire roadway allows the bridge to be replaced within 14 days."
The project is financed through vehicle registration fees.
