New Charter School in D-11

The Colorado Springs School District 11 Board of Education granted approval of the charter application for the Academy for Advanced & Creative Learning (AACL) at its meeting this evening.

AACL Board President Scott Marcy shared the sentiment of all on the AACL Board and
Steering Committee, saying "We are extremely grateful to the District 11
Board of Education for granting us this opportunity to join the District 11
family. We look forward to being a positive addition to the D11 portfolio of
excellent schools."

Enrollment opens today online at 1:00 p.m. AACL has scheduled two
Community Meetings in January to inform the community about its offerings
and offer enrollment.

Thursday, January 7, 2010
7:00PM to 8:00PM
Rockrimmon Branch Library
832 Village Center Drive
Colorado Springs, CO 80919

Thursday, January 14, 2010
7:00PM to 8:00PM
Cheyenne Mountain Branch Library
1785 South 8th Street, STE 100
Colorado Springs, CO 80905

The Academy will serve advanced, gifted, twice-exceptional and typical
learners who want to excel.

In addition, the Academy will supplement the work that other schools and districts are doing to raise achievement for all students and serve as a resource and training center for other programs.

AACL will open in August, 2010, for the 2010-2011 school year.  Among its unique offerings, the Academy is tuition free, does not require gifted testing for admission and will develop a Personal Learning Plan for every student.
