A man is in custody on two counts of first-degree murder for the suspected shooting deaths of his aunt and uncle in their home in the town of El Jebel in western Colorado. Williams Amaya, 33, is being held in the Eagle County Jail without bond for slayings of Mayra Lopez, 40, and her husband Eliseo Lopez, 42.
The Aspen Times reports Amaya shot his aunt and uncle inside their home, where he rented a room, at around 11:15 p.m. Saturday, then went to work in Eagle County. The newspaper, citing the Eagle County Sheriff's Office, reports the Lopezes' teenage sons were home at the time of the shootings, but escaped the house and one of them called 911. Amaya was located at his place of employment thanks to assistance from his cell phone service provider, which "pinged" his cell phone and reported its location to Eagle County deputies. Amaya was arrested without incident around 5:40 a.m. Sunday.
A motive for the shooting was not immediately clear. The teenage boy who survived the ordeal were being interviewed by investigators.
