A man who is only 22 inches tall is campaigning for recognition as the world's shortest man. He's left his home in Nepal on a quest for a Guinness World Record title.

Supporters saw him off from Katmandu today, offering flower bouquets and garlands. He's traveling to Europe with his father and a supporter. Their first stop is Italy, where they'll make their case on a television show. They'll decide their next step after that.

His family initially filed a claim with Guinness when he was 14, but it was rejected because he wasn't an adult and there was a chance he might grow. They applied again in October, after he turned 18, but haven't received a response.

The family says doctors in Nepal haven't been able to explain why he is so small.

The current record is held by a Chinese man who is 29 inches tall.
