Nearly one-third of Waldo Canyon Fire victims opt to rebuild

Nearly one-third of Waldo Canyon Fire victims have opted to rebuild their homes rather than relocate somewhere else.  According to the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department, 101 permits have been granted for rebuilds in the Mountain Shadows burn zone as of Wednesday.  In all, 346 homes burned when the fire raced down Queen's Canyon and barreled through Mountain Shadows the afternoon of June 26, 2012.

Marty Haynes' home on Yankton Place burned.  In fact, all the homes on Yankton Place burned. "We're so pleased that at least 60 percent of our neighbors on this street are rebuilding," Haynes said.  Rebuilding was an easy choice, Haynes says.  "Why not come back? We love the neighborhood, we love our neighbors, and we wanted to come back and build what we wanted to build the way we wanted it," she said.
