The Division of Insurance says nearly 250,000 insured Coloradans have learned their policies will be canceled at the end of the year.
While some of the cancellations are just part of yearly changes, the Division of Insurance did contribute some of the cancellations to new federal requirements under the Affordable Care Act.
A total of 106,083 individual policies have been canceled statewide. An additional 143,166 insured Coloradans are impacted under changes to the small group market.
While these individuals and families must now shop for new insurance, the Division of Insurance says they are not without options. There are a total of 541 plans available in Colorado for next year, many of which are available through Connect for Health Colorado, the state insurance exchange set up after the implementation of the Affordable Care Act.
The deadline to purchase health insurance is December 15 if you would like coverage to begin January 1.
