DUXBURY, Vt. (AP) - A Navy lieutenant has wasted little time after the repeal of "don't ask don't tell" before marrying his longtime same-sex partner.

Gary Ross and Dan Swezy, a civilian, recited their vows at the stroke of midnight in Duxbury, Vermont. They wanted to get married somewhere in the Eastern time zone, so that it would be as soon as possible after the ban on gays serving openly in the military ended at midnight.

Ross wore his dress uniform for the double-ring ceremony. A justice of the peace performed the ceremony, attended by close friends and some family members.

Ross says he plans on having a full career in the military. He says he and his partner of 11 years are "thrilled the policy is gone."
