National Night Out celebrates 34 years tonight. Communities across the country and in Southern Colorado are planning block parties.
It's a chance for people to come out of their homes, get together with neighbors, and take a stance on crime. Neighborhood Watch captains organize cookouts, games, and other activities to help neighbors get to know each other.
Police say when neighbors know each other, they in turn know who may not belong in a neighborhood and they can report suspicious activity to authorities.
The National Night Out celebration at Lovell Park in Pueblo West is postponed because of flash flooding concerns. The event is expected to be rescheduled, but no one has set a date.
