National HIV Testing Day

Today, June 27th, is National HIV testing day, an annual effort to encourage people to be screened for the virus that causes aids.

The Centers for Disease Control estimates more than a million people are living with HIV and one in five don't know they are infected.

Testing is important because early diagnosis and treatment can prolong life and help prevent transmitting the virus to others.
