Mustard agent vapor has been detected at the Pueblo Chemical Depot today.
Depot spokeman Chuck Sprague says that the leaking vapor was discovered around 2p.m. this afternoon during routine monitoring operations in a chemical munitions storage igloo. Sprague added that the vapor is contained inside the igloo and it is not a threat to the community.
Depot employees installed an air filtering device on the earth-covered storage igloo today, in addition to the filtering system already in place to clear the air in the igloo. Workers will begin the process of locating the leaking munition(s) Wednesday morning.
Pueblo County and state officials have been notified.
