SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The U.S. Army says it will reach a major milestone when the final large container of liquid mustard agent stored at a Utah facility is destroyed.
Officials at the U.S. Army's Deseret Chemical Depot in Tooele-about 50 miles southwest of Salt Lake City - say the last bulk container will be incinerated Monday. The liquid drained from the container will be destroyed over the next two days.
The site once held about 43-percent of the country's chemical weapons and has incinerated 12.3 million pounds of the blistering mustard agent since 2006.
Lesser amounts of mustard gas still remain at facilities in Alabama, Oregon, Colorado and Kentucky.
