DENVER (AP) - A nearly weeklong snow storm that brought over 6 feet of heavy, wet snow to parts of Colorado is winding down. A winter storm warning was in effect through 5 p.m. Thursday in much of western Colorado and then colder and drier air is expected to move in.

With 1 to 2 feet of snow falling in last day alone, the Colorado Avalanche Information Center said the avalanche risk was high in the San Juans and the mountains around Crested Butte.

National Weather Service forecaster Joe Ramey says the flow of moisture out of the southwest means the storm favored south and southwest facing slopes. Crested Butte's ski resort reported a total of 5 feet.

Nearby Gothic got over 6 feet of snow through Wednesday but a final tally isn't available yet.
