Mountain lion invades home

A hungry mountain lion broke into a home outside of Salida on Thursday killing one dog, injuring four others, and trapping a mother and two children inside. It came in through the dog door while Michelle Bese and her five year old son Logan were coloring at the kitchen table. She immediately grabbed her son and ran to a back bedroom where her two year old daughter Avery was napping.

Eventually Michelle, Logan, and Avery escaped through a window. Chaffee County Sheriff's Deputies and Division of Wildlife officials arrived on scene shortly after. They opened the doors to the home, hoping the animal would leave. It did not and eventually the cat was tranquilized.

Five dogs were trapped in the house throughout the process. All five were injured, one eventually died.

The mountain lion was eventually put down by Division of Wildlife.
