State troopers say a motorcycle driver was speeding and driving in the wrong lane when he hit an oncoming car Monday evening in Widefield.
The fatal accident happened just before 5:30 p.m. at the crest of a hill on Goldfield Road about a half a mile north of Fontaine Boulevard.
Troopers say it's likely the driver of the Chevy sedan didn't even see the motorcycle until it was too late.
Trooper Ryan Comer says several witnesses saw the driver accelerating rapidly as he approached the crest of the hill. The driver likely lost control just before the accident and drifted into the wrong lane.
"It's a little bit of a scenic drive, it's a little bit of curves, we have had some motorcycle crashes here in the past," Comer said.
The motorcycle rider died at the scene. The driver of the sedan was taken to Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
