The Pikes Peak United Way says more people in our area are in need of help with their utilities. 51% of the calls to 211 in the last year were for help with energy bills.
United Way also says 41% of the callers were picking up the phone for the first time to get help. That's a record for the 6 years the line has been available.
78% of the callers from July 1st 2009 through June 30th 2010 were women.
The top 5 calls for service were:
1. Utility bill assistance (20,230 referrals)
2. Food (8,248 referrals)
3. Rental assistance (4,835 referrals)
4. Seasonal (4,021 referrals)
5. Shelters (2,619 referrals)
