GREELEY, Colo. (AP) - The U.S. Forest Service is considering the potential environmental impact of increased oil and gas exploration and drilling on large portions of the Pawnee National Grassland in northeast Colorado.
Portions of the grassland are already open to drilling, and Noble Energy has been trying to explore underground minerals on 20,000 acres in a separate request to the Forest Service.
According to the Greeley Tribune, the Forest Service will study the feasibility of increased drilling and new drilling technology that causes less surface damage.
