More Colorado teens are waiting to get their drivers' licenses. State data shows the number of 16- and 17-year-olds with licenses has gradually declined over the last several years.

From 2004 to 2008, the number of licenses issued to minors fell by about nine percent even though the number of teens in Colorado grew by an estimated 14 percent. A lack of money for insurance and gas, tougher new driving restrictions and busier schedules are among some of the explanations offered by teens and observers.

Those getting a license at 16 have to take a driver's education course with on-the-road training. At age 18, you can get a license by just taking a written test.
