Additional animal cruelty charges have been filed against Valarie Harris of Pueblo County. In early January Harris was charged with animal cruelty when 34 horses, donkeys and mules, 31 dogs, a cat and a llama were found living in substandard conditions at a rural residence near Boone.

After a search warrant was issued, an additional seven dead horses were found on that property and adjacent properties, so more charges have now been filed. Harris is currently being held on a $20,000 cash bond.

Pueblo Animal Services is continuing to care for the 67 animals seized from Harris on January 6, 2012. Costs associated with caring for these animals could approach $20,000 over the next several months.
