More cases of rabies in city limits raises health concerns

Pet owners are being urged to vaccinate their pets against rabies--after several skunks tested positive for the disease in Pueblo County this year. Two of the three skunks were found on Pueblo's east side.

Health experts says it's important for the public to be aware about this issue, because rabies is a fatal disease. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, rabies infects the central nervous system and ultimately causes disease in the brain and death.

Since rabid skunks have been found in city limits, today we're going to talk with the health department about the increased danger this virus is posing to pets and the public. More to come.
