MONUMENT- Board of Trustees approved an ordinance Monday banning both open consumption and retail sales of marijuana.

"It was very clear from our elected officials that they did not want marijuana in our town," Police Chief Jake Shirk said.

Shirk was asked by the Board of Trustees to draft the ordinance.

"It was a good decision for the community and everyone who lives here," trustee Jeffrey Bornstein said.

It appears to be a belief shared by the majority of the residents there.

In fact, not a single person against the ordinance or marijuana regulations showed up to speak during public comments.

The ordinance will take effect February 17.
