A group of guest from the Clarion Hotel and local neighbors along the 200 block of Spruce St near Bijou had a front row seat today as the Colorado Division of Parks and Wildlife worked to secure and transfer a Black Bear Sow and her cub.
When a crew from KOAA News 5 arrived, the mother bear had already been tranquilized and placed inside a bear trap and they were standing by in hopes that the cub would climb down from a tree and safely go where its mother was.
Sure enough, the bear cub climbed down from the tree looking for the mother bear and after calling for her for a bit eventually climbed into the bear trap. Officers from the Colorado Division of Parks and Wildlife closed the door then gave the crowd that gathered a short brief of what would be done to relocate the bears to a safer location about 100 miles away.
Colorado Springs Police Officers and Firefighters were also on hand to protect both the bears and people who gathered.
