A Pueblo judge declared a mistrial in the sexual assault and murder trial of Paul Stark. The lead defense attorney on the case, Kim Karn, was called out-of-state on a family emergency, prompting the ruling. Karn is attending a funeral in Iowa. The trial was in recess until Tuesday, so jurors will be told about the ruling when they report Tuesday and will then be dismissed.
Stark is accused of sexually assaulting and killing 14-year-old Ashley Patterson in Pueblo West in March of last year.
There is a trial resetting date scheduled for the end of this month.
